Hi Reader!

Read on for key safety tips, industry updates, and other key information!

Keep an EYE on safety in the workplace 👀

Did you know March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month? Wearing the proper eye protection at work is important for keeping eyes safe at job sites.

In the most recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers suffered 18,510 eye-related injuries and illnesses in 2020. Contact with objects or equipment led to the majority of eye injuries and illnesses requiring days away from work in 2020. Exposure to harmful substances or environments accounted for nearly 5,000 cases. Construction trades workers had 2,120 eye-related injury or illness cases in 2020, with electricians making up more than 20% of those cases.

Eye and Face Protection includes:

  • Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses
  • Goggles
  • Face shields
  • Welding helmets
  • Full-face respirators

Be sure your eye protection has an ANSI Z87.1 marking!

New York, are you ready for this?

New York State is implementing a new Ergonomics Requirement mandating:

  • Annual onsite evaluations by a qualified Ergonomist.
  • Control of ergonomics exposures (including work pace)
  • Employee training
  • Onsite medical & first aid services (with specific requirements)
  • Employee involvement

This law applies to all employers with 100 direct (or indirect) employees at a single warehouse distribution center site OR that have a total of at least 1,000 employees at one or more warehouse distribution centers in the State of New York. It takes effect June 1, 2025.

Good news—We help with the development of an Ergonomic Safety program AND conduct ergonomic assessments!

Investing in ergonomics = investing in your team’s wellbeing

Ergonomics safety is the science of designing work environments to fit the people using them, reducing strain, fatigue, and the risk of injury. In manufacturing, poor ergonomics can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), repetitive stress injuries, and long-term health issues that impact both employees and production efficiency.

Ways to implement proper ergonomic practices include:

  • Adjust workstation heights
  • Use assistive lifting devices
  • Encouraging proper posture

Prioritizing ergonomics not only keeps workers safe but also reduces downtime, lowers healthcare costs, and fosters a healthier, more engaged workforce.

  1. a. 8 hours
  2. a. Oxidizer

Explanation: The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires pictograms on chemical labels to alert users of the chemical hazards to which they may be exposed. Each pictogram consists of a symbol on a white background framed within a red border and represents a distinct hazard(s). The pictogram on the label is determined by the chemical hazard classification. There are a total of nine pictograms that the safety professional must be able to recognize. The Flame Over Circle pictogram represents Oxidizers (pictured above).

The Flame pictogram represents flammables, pyrophorics, self-heating, emits flammable gases, self-reactive, and organic peroxides. The Exploding Bomb pictogram represents explosives, self-reactives, and organic peroxides. It’s recommended that safety professionals understand all nine pictograms and their hazards associated.

The explanation above is what you get with every question in our CSP Workbook! Check it out to grow your knowledge and pass the ASP and CSP exams!
