The anniversary of this event gives a somber reminder…

Hi Reader,

Today we reflect on a tragic, yet pivotal incident in history that serves as a crucial lesson for this country and is the inspiration behind our company name. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire dates back to March 25, 1911 in New York.

146 workers, mostly immigrant women and girls, died after a fire broke out on the factory on the 8th floor. The Triangle Shirtwaist Company also occupied the 9th and 10th floors.

So much went wrong including:

  • Exit doors were locked from the inside
  • The fire escape broke because of its poor condition
  • The valves were rusted shut on the water hoses
  • There were no water sprinklers
  • There were limited ways to communicate with the 9th floor
  • Firefighters’ ladders were too short to reach workers. Their ladders reached only seven floors high
  • Life nets ripped as workers jumped on them

Workers were killed by the fire due to severe burns, smoke inhalation, falls from jumping, and injuries sustained during the incident. The horrific event led to the improvement of factory safety standards. It was a turning point for the United States to start taking safety and health seriously.

A somber visit…

Our principal consultant Brandy visited The Brown Building in New York City where the tragedy happened. This meant a lot to see the site in person as it was a tragic moment in America's history, yet so much was learned from that somber day.

Now we’re on a mission…

We named our company after this incident to pay tribute and honor those who died in the fire. Now, it's TSC's mission to ensure clients never go through anything horrible like this through:

  • Safety training
  • Safety inspections, assessments, and audits
  • Safety program development and review
  • Implementing solutions to improve unsafe conditions

We are looking forward to helping your company improve your safety program!

Speaking of ladders…

March is Ladder Safety Month. It’s important to determine if working from heights is absolutely necessary or if there is another way to do the task from the ground. Whether working from a ladder, roof, or scaffolding, it's important to plan ahead, assess the risk and use the right equipment.
