We're signed up! Who's joining us?

Hi Reader!

Summer’s here—and that means it’s time to take heat safety seriously. Heat stress becomes a critical concern for many workers, particularly those in outdoor environments or hot indoor settings. Understanding the hazards, potential injuries, and effective controls can help prevent serious health issues. Simple, actionable steps like drinking water often (even if you're not thirsty), wearing light-colored clothing, and taking breaks in shaded areas can make a world of difference.

What we've been up to

Bandy recently grabbed coffee with Bill Barnes, a seasoned EHS pro with 20+ years in industries like manufacturing, chemical production, and aerospace. We chatted about safety culture, ISO programs, and real-life challenges we’re all working through.

If you haven’t connected with a fellow EHS professional lately, now’s a great time to grab a coffee and share some insight. It makes you feel better to know that you're not alone, and they might be able to help you work through some challenges you are facing!

OSHA flammable liquids standards not to overlook

What’s the most interesting item you’ve ever found in a flammable cabinet? What about … ammo?

On a recent client visit, we discovered a flammable cabinet during an OSHA Compliance Audit with GUN AMMUNITION. Flammable cabinets are meant for flammable liquids!

Here are two OSHA 1910.106 Flammable Liquids Facts:

1️⃣ No more than 60 gallons of category 1, 2, or 3 flammable liquids, or more than 120 gallons of category 4 flammable liquids, may be stored in a storage cabinet

2️⃣ Cabinets MUST be labeled with conspicuous lettering “flammable – keep fire away”

Read more about the flammable liquids standard in our most recent blog.

We're signed up! Are you?

Every August, OSHA promotes its "Safe and Sound" campaign, a national initiative to raise awareness about the importance of effective workplace safety and health programs. This year is no exception, and it's the perfect time for organizations to reaffirm their commitment to creating safer work environments.

Organizations can sign up as Safe + Sound Week participants and have their names recognized on the Safe + Sound Week map. Participating can help get your safety program started, energize an existing one, or provide a chance to recognize your safety and health accomplishments.

CSP Workbook Answers

  1. b. 38.75 ppm

Explanation: The time-weighted average is calculated by the following equation:

NOTE: The PEL for Carbon Monoxide is 50 ppm. 38.75 ppm is less than the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). This employee has not exceeded the standard.

2. b. How work is organized, social factors, leadership, and culture of the organization

Want the explanation to this question? Check out the full workbook for only $99.

The explanations above are what you get with every question in our CSP Workbook! Check it out to grow your knowledge and pass the ASP and CSP exams!

One big question that came up in our meeting with Bill Barnes was, "How do we actually measure safety culture?" Got ideas? Respond to this email and let's keep the conversation going.
